Time to change the conversation around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in our workplaces

This is not your typical conference.

Finland prides itself on its equality, especially its gender parity. However, recent reports on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace prove this is not the reality. For non-Finnish speakers, in particular, the gaps are even wider… and that’s a problem.

We are your typical professionals. But that’s kind of the point: there’s no such thing as a “normal” worker. That’s why we’ve come together to build a new DEI conference, DEI Forum Nordics. Our intention is to encourage thought-provoking conversations to push attendees out of their comfort zone and think in newer, bigger, and better ways about DEI. We’re focused on bringing cutting-edge theory to the world of business practice through interactive, action-based diversity and inclusion event workshops that enable real change.

We need this now more than ever. Because even now, the gap between where we are and where we want to be is huge:

80% of employees think inclusion efforts are an important factor when choosing a company (Deloitte, 2017).

At the same time, nearly 50% think their companies could improve diversity (Atlassian, 2021)

But this is 2022. And at this point it’s shameful that we are so far from the ideal of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We need to catch up in order for Nordic models to remain globally competitive and economically viable.

About Us

DEI Forum Nordics was born from the mind of three international female professionals with extensive knowledge of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), event production, and marketing & communications: Priyanka Banerjee, Aurora Grion, and Erica Terranova. While collaborating on other DEI projects, we noticed that Finland and the Nordics are lacking a truly inclusive conference, where speakers and participants from diverse backgrounds could share a thought-provoking conversation about DEI in society and in the workplace. As the project took shape, some amazing partners joined the organization, making DEI Forum Nordics a truly collaborative and inclusive project, made possible by the contribution of volunteers and partners committed to advancing the cause of DEI in the Nordics.
